Midland Bonsai Society

The site for Bonsai enthusiasts in the Midlands

Every year we hold a club photographic competition which is judged by an independent assessor. The winning photograph is displayed on our site with the photographer's permission. The competition is usually held in December (the first Thursday in December). Also at the December meeting we hold our AGM and a christmas party which members kindly bring nibbles in. Thanks to everyone who brought something in last year. Finally thanks to our competition winner for allowing us to share the winning picture...good luck to everyone for this year !!!

The Competition is split into 4 categories and you may enter as many categories as you wish.

Aim for arty photographs which demonstrate the art of Bonsai. Concentrate on the overall shape of the tree(s). The silhouette highlighting the outline, the form, the shape. Think about the balance between the tree and the light.

2.

FINE DETAIL

Use the incredible close-up capabilities of the modern camera to take pictures that show the fine details that make up the tree. Draw the viewers attention to aspects of a tree that might otherwise be missed.

INSPIRATION

Pictures of trees in the landscape the inspiration for the expert. Aim for mood and atmosphere.
